Bump this thread when Ben Crump swoops in and squeezes out local legal representation in a civil rights case. He just cares so much. When I see original counsel on a news segment for a particular type of crime, I know their time is limited.

Doesn't he usually come in at the request of the defendant or their family?

He seems pretty useful in high-profile cases when transparency and accountability seem to be lacking.

Perhaps he does things for altruistic reasons, but to me it seems like he just likes getting on tv to me. One of those gloria allred types

I forgot that I made this thread and as a result have missed several chances to bump it. Oops!

My guess was he contacts them proactively, and then they agree, but I don't know. It could be the altruism.

I don't even think it's altruism, nor do I see where that concept even comes into the discussion.. I'm sure Ben Crump's firm gets paid upon settlement award, just like other attorneys.

Im sure he does.care about the people he represents, as well. I just don't think he is "swooping" in on anything. I think that he is invited in by the defendents and their families to amplify the case and get national attention where perhaps local representation is unable to do so.

I mean, if your house is on the market and isn't selling, maybe it's cause your buddy that is a part time realtor sucks or is ill equiped. If you call someone more experienced to properly market your home, and all of a sudden you are getting offers, did that new realtor "swoop" in? I bet he would still be expecting to get paid should you sell your home.

The creation of this thread was inspired by seeing a victim's family on national news reports at a press conference with their local legal counsel one day, and then the next day during an update segment, the original guy was either nowhere to be found or was resigned to the background while Ben Crump grabbed the spotlight.

Maybe he's the best guy for the job and preferred by the families. That's obviously their choice and their right. But to me, he seem like a classic ambulance (hearse?) chaser, to me.

^^fair

Maybe I'm equating ambulance chaser with trying to get on tv.

Take the cases of Trayvon Martin, or Ahmaud Arbery for example. In both of these cases, someone was murdered under suspicious circumstances, and no one was even so much as arrested. In fact, as has been known to happen in US history in the South, these matters were kind of swept under the rug and the investigative figures basically said " move along nothing to see here". This was only possible by doing despicable shit in the cloak of darkness.

I am not saying that's been Crump had everything to do with the exposure in these cases, but it definitely seemed that after he was invited in, got involved, and elevated the cases to national level ... only then did they actually start getting attention.

Now I get it, some people may call this opportunistic. I just think that Ben Crump has a unique skill, garnering national attention, and he applies it when asked to in the legal arenas. IMO, this is the same skill that Rev. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton possessed in a different era, except they appealed to the religious/ moral arenas. This is all done in the sense of bringing despicable shit done in the cloak of darkness into the light.

I concede, and I agree with your assessment. I don't love lawyers, but they are necessary in certain circumstances.

Feel free to use this thread for Ben Crump spottings, though.

I think we should all give ourselves a pat on the back for being excellent human beings.
