it's a heating unit that stays outside, why the fuck is it not working with ice on it(it's a window unit in this room) I'm not handy enough to do a jury rig :3 it's 50 degrees and if I turn it on it just spits out cold air which never warms upthank you for sharing in my grief

I don't understand what is going onwhen I put it on the heat option and like medium fan speed, the fan never comes out and it's still steadily blowing out cold airwhen I put the Cool option on, the fan instantly goes up to Medium where it should benormally it shouldn't even think about coming out (the cool option) since it's god damn 20 degrees below what I would keep the AC on normallynormally
2/20/2025 2:31:46 PM
turn the unit around it will blow the cold air out.

If it's a heat pump, they don't work well at all when it gets very cold outside, and they rely on emergency heat strips to reach set points.

This sounds like a job for Greg Fishel
2/20/2025 3:20:57 PM
shit got down to like 50 degrees that was brutal lol
4/19/2025 7:11:26 PM
guess who forgot that this was a thing until it started snowing and icing over on the unit
12/8/2025 8:23:56 PM
WHAT THE FUCKING CHRIST ARE YOU SHOOTING OUT COLD AIR FOR JESUS FUCK
12/8/2025 8:24:26 PM
According to my elementary calculations, you've had 8 months to FUCKING FIX this thing!!
12/8/2025 8:49:56 PM
If the coils are frozen, the compressor won't be able to warm air to send inside. Does it have visible ice on the outside? If so, a temporary fix might be to run the A/C for like 30 minutes to defrost it and then see if it will produce any hot air. You need to call up an HVAC repair company imo.[Edited on December 8, 2025 at 9:18 PM. Reason : V ]

Get some sort of electric space heater
12/15/2025 2:05:09 AM
The space heater in my water heater closet has a reset button. Maybe it is that

It's a heat pump. They don't really work when it gets super cold outside. They work by capturing heat energy from the outdoor air and transferring it ("pumping") it inside. When it's cold out, there's not much energy available to capture and pump inside.
12/15/2025 11:05:17 AM
Right. That's pretty much what I said back in February.
12/15/2025 11:12:17 AM
You sure did. I read the title and OP and nothing more.
12/15/2025 11:18:32 AM
That's OK. I wasn't complaining. I appreciate the agreement on root cause.

It's a heat pump. They don't work when it's really cold.

Need to preheat your heat pump, similar to when you preheat an oven
12/15/2025 4:53:51 PM
so u guys r saying like pee on it or?bc I hear our pee can kill bushes
12/15/2025 8:08:50 PM
Actually, peeing on it or even just running water over the outdoor coil will make it heat much better. The problem is it can cause scale to build up on the coil over time and it will probably also kill the fan.

Get some distilled water bubs

A good option for supplemental heat in a smallish space is one of those cheap Chinese diesel parking heaters that's a knock-off of the Webasto heaters. I snagged one for $50 off FB marketplace for heating my shop. I put a piece of plywood in a window and ran the exhaust through it with a thru-hull fitting. They're intended for automotive applications, so they usually don't come with a 120v AC adapter, but it's easy enough to rig up a 12v DC power supply and they have some now that are coming with AC adapters. It is relatively fuel efficient and doesn't put all the water vapor from combustion in the room like a propane heater. Way cheaper than supplementing with electric space heaters. I bring the shop up to temp first thing with a big diesel torpedo heater and then hold it there with the little Chinese unit.I fucking hate heat pumps.

Heat pumps certainly beat roughing it cro magnum style

I don't know, but I would think it wouldn't be a great idea to pour water on it when it's in the teens/low-twenties outside.
12/16/2025 3:22:56 PM
Disagree, that is the best time to do it]
12/16/2025 4:40:26 PM
Dude, don't actually pour water on it. It'll give it a warmer heat source and improve performance briefly, but it'll wreck it.
12/16/2025 6:30:12 PM
the thing is already wrecked lolso fuck it
12/16/2025 8:25:42 PM
Do this white boy

If you have a pet, place them on top of your heat pump unit outside. Their body heat will thaw out the unit and increase the ambient air temp at the same time (keeping your pet warm)
12/16/2025 9:28:06 PM
Watler that is a great idea thank you for your service sir
