I think the coming reliance on AI clients is going to be disastrous for society because it reduces the library to a monolithic voice of authority

I'm afraid this might be the end of free thought in the mainstream and the beginning of a technocratic reshaping of civilization - a re-subjugation of the serfs and a return of the cruelty of the Gilded Age

I tend to agree. Seeing the trends of kids using AI instead of google searches is concerning. Even if AI is citing sources no one reads the sources.

One possible good though is that ai seems to have a well developed sense of ethics when given mass datasets that haven’t been hand tuned. This could help deal with the misinformation problem we see but I think we need some regulation around this. Both training data and system prompts on public facing ai needs to be auditable and open.
