"Quite" is a pretty weird word. It has two somewhat opposing definitions. ("opposing isn't the right word)

One is "to the utmost or most absolute extent or degree; absolutely; completely; absolutely."
The other is "to a certain or fairly significant extent or degree; fairly.:

Those definitions are quite different.
