Why has this turned into a conservatives vs liberals discussion?

A woman murders three young children, tries to kill herself, fails, then blames it on insanity.

To use PPD within the context of temporary insanity to me seems like a very very slippery slope. What implications could this have for every other woman suffering from PTSD if her defense is successful? Could husbands use this case as precedent to sue for custody in a custody dispute? There is certainly room for misuse by men who are lashing out at their spouses.

What if she were found not guilty, let out, and then had more kids?

Also, the aftermath of this trial, to me, has been so messed up. They outed that one lone juror who I guess stood on his convictions that this woman murdered her children. The women of the jury didn’t like that so now they’re speaking out against him. Media outlets released just enough information about this juror that he could be doxxed, and now all of HIS indiscretions are on the trial of public opinion. This guy didn’t ask to be on this jury. After this, I’m not gonna want to ever server on a jury.

So much messed up about this whole situation.

I'll state up front that I have not really followed the trial, but I'm under the impression that many people think she did not kill the children. I've also heard that's bullshit, because she admitted she killed the children. However (and this is why I wanted to post, despite my ignorance)....

What I've heard, second hand, is there's significant speculation by some that the husband actually committed the murders, and I just wanted to add....

I can easily imagine a situation (not necessarily this situation) where a husband kills the children, and, due to her mental health issues, successfully gaslights the mother into *believing* she is the one that killed the children.

How much evidence, if any, is there to suggest this? Has other evidence come out that contradicts this possibility?

I'm just genuinely curious.

I have also not been following the case at all but for most of a jury to want to acquit in this case— there has to be something exculpatory right?

First, I will look up the meaning of exculpatory. . .

^^Not necessarily. An acquittal in an insanity case doesn’t require evidence showing she didn’t kill the children. The question is whether she was legally responsible for what she did at the time. So the same evidence can convince jurors that she committed the acts while also convincing them that her mental state met the legal standard for insanity. If most jurors favored acquittal, that could simply mean they found the psychiatric evidence persuasive, not that there was evidence pointing to someone else as the killer.

No, what StTexan said. She had a long history of psychiatrist visits and medications. She probably should not have been left with the kids alone given the extent of her obvious illness. Maybe the docs are complicit too? Given she googled it before hand and strangled each with an exercise band one by one kind of takes any doubt she didn't do it away. Insanity in some cases means she would get locked away for ever, just instead of jail a mental hospital. I think in a few states it's theoretically possible for her to get out if the docs clear her. Maybe Mass is one, would assume it is.

All that said she should probably die by hanging and there should be kind of a justice for the 3 dead kids. I'd say the husband bore some responsibility but the 911 call he made is so horrific and bone chilling it will make you insta cry. He's probably suffered enough for 100 lifetimes.
