Jeter is like priority number 3 for them right now behind resigning Mariano Rivera and landing Cliff Lee. Both of those are much more important than keeping a bad defensive shortstop with no power and declining bat speed. If they don't sign Jeter it just means they sign a veteran and use the additional money to make sure they get Lee or add a guy like Carl Crawford.
11/30/2010 4:11:11 PM
saying they'll use the extra money on cliff lee or crawford is not really true though. They have enough money to spend whatever they want on crawford, lee, jeter and mo. It's just that they're trying to take stand against spending so much money every year.
11/30/2010 4:17:26 PM
Just because they can doesn't mean they should.
11/30/2010 4:19:12 PM
i agree, i just think they're picking the wrong guy to make that point to. i hate that they are trying to take a stand against a guy who has never done anything but good things for the franchise, and i would be really pissed if he didn't retire as a yankee.

Sabathia wants Cliff Lee-level (plus) money this year:http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/2011/02/14/2011-02-14_yankees_ace_cc_sabathia_expected_to_exercise_optclause_in_contract_after_2011_se.htmlWonder if they'll throw the money at him they threw at A-Rod when he opted out?

Dumb move -- no one with a brain is going to pay a guy his size more - in years or $ - than what he is owed. I suspect he wants to just go home and play for SF or OAK if this is true..
2/16/2011 1:13:38 PM
I heard he lost some weight since he cut back his Capn Crunch intake from an entire box every morning a la Lendale White giving up tequila

CC is pretty settled in New Jersey according to that article. His kids are in school, he's been a presence in the area in a number of capacities. How much of that is him basking in the glow of being at the top of the mountain in NYC, I'm not sure. Doing it for A-Rod wasn't so smart now, I guess. They're gonna end up having to pay him more than Cliff Lee at some point. If they'd gotten Lee, I'd be less inclined to say it's going to happen and CC would probably just be allowed to go back West.[Edited on February 16, 2011 at 5:03 PM. Reason : x]

It makes all the sense in the world. His current deal runs till he's 35. If he can get similar money till he's 38 or 40, he'd be dumb not to opt out.
2/16/2011 5:04:04 PM
Oh, no doubt. I doubt they'll let him go.
2/16/2011 5:05:42 PM
Even getting less money annually, he could make out well here. He gets 23/year for the five years left on his deal. Reducing that to 20 and tacking two or three years on the end of the deal could be a win/win.

bttt for the seasongonna be an interesting season, especially with the pitching rotation what it is. hopefully some of the bats wake up for the run support these guys will need. Jeter needs to have a better season and Tex needs to come out of his slump from last year.game 1 yesterday looked good, esp Granderson's defense with those couple big catches he made. hopefully they continue to gather steam and really make Boston sweat this season with their lineup. we shall see

There should certainly be more discussion than 5 posts per month. Especially consider it is the Yankees and there are bandwagon fans everywhere. Where were you when Mattingly was all the Yankees had, probably rooting for the As.

Sick burn.

^^I was at the stadium you dipshit, since I only lived 45 minutes away.[Edited on August 18, 2011 at 8:41 AM. Reason : now go root for your inferior team]
8/18/2011 8:41:33 AM
^ wow someone is butt hurt. I was just joking DIPSHIT. Congrats for living 45 mins from the stadium I guess. My inferior team is only inferior because it can't spend like the Yankees due to it being owned by a shitty corporation. The Braves as a team may be slightly inferior, but as an organization, they are better than the Yankees. Neither team is winning the WS this year anyway so who gives a fuck. Red Sox - Phillies in the WS
8/18/2011 10:10:32 PM
lol, I'm not sure why I said dipshit. Probably b/c it was 840am and I was still grumpy. Sorry.I don't see how you can say the Braves are a better organization than the Yankees though. And WS match up will be Phillies Yanks! Not Red Sox
8/19/2011 11:26:14 AM
^ Because one the biggest things that keeps the Yankees as a contender is their ability to sign FAs. Their development of young players is average at best. The Braves meanwhile have either developed all of their stars or used their farm system to trade for players. If the Braves ability to build a farm system was merged with an unlimited budget like NY, then they'd be hard to beat. That is why I say they are the better organization, but not team. The Yankees are getting better about keeping and developing their players of late though. I am not a hater of the no salary cap in baseball though and the Yankees are fortunate to be such a force as a brand that they can spend $200 million and still make $texas. I wish the Braves could do that.Plus the Yankees had Constanza working for them

hey Yankees fans, tell Burnett he sucks
8/20/2011 10:22:40 PM
We are running out of ways to tell him so.
8/21/2011 2:41:07 AM
As Old Hoss Radbourn said on Twitter last night, "In A. Burnett's defense, the Yankees do only score 325 runs per game, so he really has no margin of error."
8/21/2011 12:15:53 PM
Andrew Brackman was warming up in the bullpen vs Seattle. Doubt he'll be going in with it so close though.
