Greg Oden to the Heat?of course he would never stay healthy, but for the right price?pretty intriguing

They would be unbelievable if they got oden and he stayed healthy. Because he's been injured its easy for people to forget how productive he's been in the games he did play Honestly a team like the heat who can cruise to a top seed without him should just bench him until the last 10 games of the season and then hope he can hold up for a playoff run.
12/5/2011 2:08:48 AM
I'd be shocked if he signed with the Heat. The Blazers have already extended an $8 million qualifying offer, and the best Miami will be able to come up with is mid-level money. Granted, the security of a multi-year deal could have its appeal. But I think going to Miami would only place his career under greater scrutiny, which I could totally seem him wanting no part of at this point.I think I read Bill Simmons suggest this, but either the Suns or Pacers may be an ideal situations for him. The Suns have a supposedly magical training staff to save his legs and he's from Indiana, so couple a homecoming with a low-pressure, small-market and that could be a comfortable environment for him. If he's willing to take something for around the mid-level, then he wouldn't be too risky an investment for either team as the Suns plan for a post-Steve Nash future, and the Pacers have Roy Hibbert in case the injuries do prove never ending.

Can't see Oden going anywhere other than Portland unless the other team is overpaying for him (I mean he's restricted, so Portland can match other offers)
12/5/2011 4:56:47 AM
If the Lakers somehow got Howard and Paul, it would fly in the face of everything the new CBA is supposed to represent.
12/6/2011 12:09:57 PM
Man, if they got those two along with Kobe, I'd ditch the Mavs and become a Laker fan again.
12/6/2011 12:11:46 PM
^^ Those people that say that is possible severely overestimate Gasol's worth to another team. He already proved he couldn't couldn't carry a team with Memphis and now he is in his 30's.
12/6/2011 1:39:53 PM
He can't carry a team to a title, but he can carry a team to 50 wins and a 3 or 4 seed, which is pretty much the best case scenario for Orlando and/or New Orleans should they lose their top guys.
12/6/2011 1:49:16 PM
Gasol gives New Orleans, at best, a place in the bottom half of the playoffs and a first round elimination for the next 3 years. assuming they're biggest interest is building a championship contender, after losing Paul, the best case scenario for them is getting back young talent and expiring contracts. then they bottom out, hope to score big in the loaded 2012 draft, and if they're able to select a true franchise player, utilize their cap-space cautiously, but wisely, a la Oklahoma City.I read this on some blog and thought it was a great idea: the single best asset New Orleans could get for Paul would be Stephen Curry. he's young, exciting, still improving, the next most likely heir to the Steve Nash throne, and the son of a former Hornet great.
12/6/2011 2:21:27 PM
Yikes I'm giving the clippers a chop. Three years ago caron butler would be a great signing but after falling off and then outright sucking last year AND coming off an injury he is most likely completely washed up.3 years $24 million???? There is a lot of young talent out there you could land significantly cheaper. It's a shame bc I expected the clippers to make the playoff leap this year but this makes it tough
12/8/2011 5:13:20 PM
i think they would have been better off getting Tayshaun Prince, but its not necessarily a bad deal. it only makes it easier to now package Aminu with Kaman for a quality point guard.and if they do no deals, they could start Aminu at the 3 and make Bulter the 6th man and have a potentially great scoring option for the second unit.

keeping Bynum as bait for Howard?
12/8/2011 6:21:57 PM
You are really underestimating how badly Caron Butler fell off last year. It was a horrible signing unless he's back to his old self. He's about to turn 32 and he's coming off an injury. Wings tend to decline sharply after 30, only big men and point guards are typically still productive. Honestly his value should be closer to $1M per season than $8 million.Tyson Chandler likely to the Knicks. That would actually make them competitive and if they got Chris Paul and kept Landry Fields somehow they'd be the favorites to win the title. Dallas probably won't be able to compete for the title without Chandler. They are really old and likely trying to save cap space for next offseason. Haywood is a decent replacement though.Sucks Chandler isn't going to Golden State. He'd make them a really strong team.

Talks of Shane Battier to Heat. Not a All-Star name, but def experience, defensive presence, hard worker, and selfless player. Could be a serious pick up and huge impact in playoffs. III
12/8/2011 6:47:31 PM
Simmons has gotta be going nuts after that Paul to the Lakers news.
12/8/2011 6:53:57 PM
Oden took Portland's 1 year qualifying offer for $8.9 million. It makes sense. If he can stay healthy and have a productive season he'll get $10MM/yr from someone but as of right now people were too worried to offer more than MLE type money. He could always get that later even if he gets hurt again.Dwight howard to LA, Gasol to houston, and Scola/Martin to Orlando? That is an awful deal for Orlando. Both of those guys are alright but nothing special... good deal for both Houston and a coup for the Lakers. Gasol is great, but Howard is younger and dominant.WOW. Chris Paul headed to LAL but they are dumping Gasol & Odom?!?! Chris Paul is a top notch player, but I'm not sure they get better by losing two great players. Bryant will hate having someone overshadow him and always have the ball. Weird trade. Is Bynum for Howard next?Battier and Mike Miller are pretty equal in terms of value but with Miller's injury troubles and Battier's flexibility on defense that's almost definitely an upgrade for them. They simply have to get a center though, so if the move keeps them from landing one it's detrimental overall.[Edited on December 8, 2011 at 7:18 PM. Reason : a][Edited on December 8, 2011 at 7:21 PM. So much for the new CBA helping any of the small market teams. Lakers/Heat finals for the next 4-5 years.
12/8/2011 7:44:52 PM
what the hell are the lakers thinking? That Bynum will stay healthy and they'll pick up more big guys? I know they are going to a completely new system but I just don't understand them ditching Gasol.

They are going to try to turn Bynum into Howard somehow.

honestly that trade isn't unfair at all. Giving up two stars for one superstar is legit. That trade in itself actually makes the Lakers slightly worse. Now if they can get Howard for Bynum, that's the trade that makes them great.

12/8/2011 10:25:18 PM
This is just an absolute mess. People (not just Lakers fans) seem pretty irate with Stern for this shit. The NBA was insistent that they'd let the Hornets operate on their own without interfering, but the first big move they make the NBA immediately strikes down just because the small market owners get pissed (by the way, those small-market owners weren't getting Paul anyway so they've got no reason to get their pannies in a bunch). This is why a league can't own a team the way the league owns the Hornets right now. The NBA has lost a lot of credibility in this whole debacle. I don't see any way that their rejection of this trade gets sustained; I think Chris Paul will still be a Laker on opening day.

Stern is straight pimpin the league. Wow. I did not have much respect for him, but I have totally lost it now. The NBA owning the Hornets although gives him the right, it is to unfair to reject a trade that the teams have agreed upon. This could possibly hurt NO in the long run if CP# ends up walking away at the of the season and they lose all. III
12/8/2011 11:41:54 PM
yeah i dont think you get better trading two studs for one superstar. So the hornets would have gotten Odom, Scola, Martin, and Dragic??? How can they say that deal got turned down for basketball reasons? That's a pretty legit return for Chris Paul. Nearly a competitive starting five for one player, they probably won't get a whole lot more than that from anyone.Jordan would trade Chris Paul for Nick Young and a 2nd rd pick if he had a chance.[Edited on December 8, 2011 at 11:44 PM. but Felton and May would be too priceyi think the Celtics trade (if it was legit) was a better offerRondo on his own is a potential cornerstone, and throw in Jeff Green (who at least belongs in an NBA team's rotation) and that's better for the future than the Odom-Scola-Martin-Dragic. with those guys the Hornets are battling for an 8th seed. why tread water? Suns get Shannon Brown. That's a big loss for the Lakers, it was nice for them to be able to play Kobe less minutes and not lose too much. They are thinking about replacing him with Delonte West though who is a total wildcard. Decent player but not all there mentally, might get into trouble in LA.
