Republicans have let another beautiful Ukrainian refugee, starting her life, get murdered in cold blood. Trump failed to end the war in Ukraine despite multiple campaign promises. PROMISES BROKEN. This poor women was forced to continue working her pizza job instead of attending college in her home country of Ukraine. Killed by a dangerous schizophrenic, on the street due to Republican Ronald Reagan shutting down the psychiatric facilities in the 1980s. As we know the Republicans have continued to defund various programs that could help get these people off the street.

Remember Trump doesn't care about dangers faced by Americans. His family has secret service protection.

Vi Lyles (the mayor) currently has 71% of the vote in today's democratic primary so luckily people don't seem to be blaming the mayor, which is mostly just a ceremonial role in the first place.

The killer has a lengthy rap sheet including assault on a female and armed robbery, which I believe he served 5 years for. But his most recent arrest (before the murder) was in January for "misuse of 911 system". So while democrats are sometimes soft on crime regarding sentencing, the hindsight that he "should have been locked up and never on the train in the first place" for misusing the 911 system 6 months ago is also unrealistic.

But the right are definitely latching onto this, like some reverse Laken Riley situation. Pretty blonde gets killed and it's time to completely overhaul the entire local and state government! And it's the mayor's fault because killers care about what political party the mayor is before they stab someone!

I just don't understand how TGL can't see that I'm taking his side here.

I'm just pointing out that the conservative media (which seems to have quite a bit of sway these days) is taking this headline and bending it to their will. The same way they've done with the whole trans athletes debate.

And when I say "soft" I mean that when something like this happen, out of the gate you don't want to make it sound like the perpetrator is also a victim. At least not right out of the gate, and that's pretty much what the mayor did.

Could he have been jailed for that last arrest? It would have been ridiculous to do so, but the folks making a lot of noise aren't mentioning the types of arrests, because it sounds a lot better to just say "14 prior arrests with little to no jail time".

So this thread is about Democratic messaging, and I'm saying they need to do something to get in front of this particular headline.
