The problem is there is really no such thing with anything more complex than like "is the earth round?" There is no way for a human to write something without implicit bias and an AI is just pulling from human sources. Which is what Wikipedia does already btw. Also anyone paying any attention knows that Grok has been showing very open biases through its whole history and is run by a person that is very open about their own biases and wanting to shape the world through those biases. It's pretty hard to have hope about this project from that source.

Most people also express the healthy skepticism/grain of salt of Wiki that you express, I worry that folks will be more inclined to assign that "objective truth" to Grok bc it's AI, when in fact it will almost definitely be just as susceptible to the issues you attribute to wikipedia.

In this system they are ostensibly accountable to the consumer public, share holders, and board. Control is somewhat decentralized. As we have seen, Elon despite his wealth and influence got cucked harder than probably anyone in politics ever and he's back to selling cars. Clearly just wealth is not sufficient for true power.

so i read the paper (the nbcnews article is poop) and it's an interesting and worthwhile effort to compare wikipedia and grokipedia. i think it's completely fair to say that some of wikipedia has been compromised to frame certain topics in certain (typically left leaning) directions. and therefore it seems reasonable to have multiple attempts to wikify knowledge. i don't use grokipedia and it's only v.1 but i find the approach interesting. and even if elon doesn't do it well or puts his thumb on the scale for some topics, it seems likely that somebody will in the next couple years make a good faith and perhaps ultimately useful effort into such a project. in the meantime though, it's probably a waste of time to pay any attention to grokipedia.
