Defense is failing to defend which is one of the key elements of good defense

Feels like we’re getting hit a lot on drives and not getting to the line. UL is getting those calls

McNeil a non factor on offensive and seemed to have a couple defensive mistakes early. Q not playing particularly well…3 turnovers and not making a lot happen offensively. And the defense is back to its old ways of giving up lots of open looks from every where on the court. We also can’t seem to buy a foul despite lots of very hard contact from UL

Also Jay Williams is a fucking dork

Yeah we need to lock in on defense. Dunno if they're gonna shoot like this all night either.

Almost like that historic ACC winning streak was a result of playing a bunch of bad teams

Yep. I have seen some good defensive possessions from us and they're still 8-11 from 3 point range.

Yeah, I don't even hate our defense that much. There were mistakes for sure on a number of possessions. But we played a bunch of great possessions where they just drilled a tough shot on us. I think our bigger problems is the rebounding and offensive possessions that end in turnovers/bad shots that set them up for a fast break.

Looking like a Mark Gottfried team out there tonight. Not gonna keep watching.

They hit tough shots for sure but defensively we were pretty dogshit. Also offensively pretty dog shit

IMO this is worse to watch than the 24 point game. Because at least we played good defense in that one.

McNeill was non existent on offense and just plain bad on defense. Q looked like Ben Middlebrooks missing layups tonight. Our defense was pathetic, at some point when two guys are scoring over 30 points you might want to at least get a hand in their face, even if they are a few feet behind the line. These are not the style points we need for our ranking. After a game like this I think we can forget being ranked this season. I mentioned that this was the start of a stretch against Louisville, UVA, UNC, and Duke to see if we were a contender. Doesn’t look like it after one game.

We haven't beaten a single really good team this year. Clemson is as much of a fraud as we are. We both have built a resume without top tier wins and having incredibly easy first half of the conference schedules. I have a feeling neither of us is going to be in the double bye picture in a couple weeks. More likely fighting for a single bye.

A lot of people got tricked by a win streak against the dregs of the acc. I mean i guess it's good we can beat them most of the time, but we're pretty clearly not a top 25 team

^^

I have a feeling McNeil is about to see Able or Arcenaux steal his starting spot. Not trying to hate on him too much, I just think he needs some more time to figure out the defensive side of things against elite competition. It seems like he was absolutely scorched by SMU's guards and now Louisville's. And he wasn't able to really produce enough offensively against those same guards to offset the defensive lapses.

Able might screw up some on defense too, but he seems to have more length and lateral quickness to compensate. And he has been showing the ability the last few games to create offensive pressure on multiple levels. Where McNeil seems content to always jack up forced 3s with guys right on him rather than drive and force a help defender to rotate over.

And if not Able, Arcenaux seems to bring a defensive intensity that the rest of the team picks up on. So at least when we open up a game shooting like shit, maybe we can get a few stops and stay in it until we get the offense going.
