it’s not full of nazis, racists, or those who sympathize with them, and it’s not owned by one of the worst people in the world

Democrats should abolish ice

Also I’ve been saying abolish ice for 10 years (it hasn’t been around much longer than that anyway). It’s the right thing to do irrespective of what uninformed voters want— they’ll come around once they think about it and someone conveys it correctly.

The current data shows this could be made a populist position since populism is all the rage now.

Dems need to stop putting their finger to the wind when it comes to issues like this. they need to lead instead of reacting

The nature of the political system in this country more or less necessitates usurping one of the two existing parties. It's been happening pretty much constantly since we stabilized with the names "Democrat" and "Republican" in the mid-1800s.

There's already plenty of rumbling about primary challenges and I expect that momentum to increase. They probably won't oust all of the collaborators, but at least it'll put the fear of God into some.

If the Big Bill passes ICE will have a gargantuan budget. Tens of billions of dollars. More than the United States Marine Corps. It will have the funds to become the largest jailer in the country and have more agents than the FBI. It will be absurdly bloated and, I hope and expect, make itself even more hated. "Abolish ICE" is not a radical position anymore. "Prosecute ICE" would be.

You don't have to abolish the concept of immigration enforcement (though of course I'd love to). Those duties can be returned to their properly modest scale and assigned to one of the other relevant agencies, like CBP, FBI, or even State (DSS already handles passport and visa fraud). But the name "ICE" is going to be toxic well beyond the left fringe for a long time.
