He doesn't want to put himself through a nasty primary fight and what right now must look like probably defeat in the general, especially if Cooper gets in. Good riddance.

I worry if cooper is the right choice though if Tillis isn’t running. The electorate is meaningfully different now than a few years ago. My gut says dems need to run a young person with energy.
