i was listening to NPR, and they were interviewing some guy (I think from the Triad) who had a window installation company with three employees, and he was talking about how all his products are made in Mexico, and how badly the tariffs are going to affect him, and that he understands the goal is to get them to move the manufacturing to the USA, but he knew that wouldn't actually happen. for this specific industry and many other industries. So he's going to have to raise his prices significantly, which will likely make people stop getting new windows, which could very well make him have to fire his employees and lose his business....

but then he was asked if he regretted voting for Trump, and he said "Not at all". And when asked why his explanation was that two kids had died from fentanyl at the school his young daughter will soon attend, and the lady who was charged with supplying the fentanyl only got 7 years in prison. And he thinks that's because the democrats are too soft on crime, and trump will fix that.

I think there may be an element of publicity stunt just to keep the rubes on his brand.

I also think he knows he can paralyze the GOP by keeping open the possibility of running in 2028. Even if he doesn't do it, he can withhold acknowledging that to prevent the party from coalescing around or really supporting any successors or challenges to his power, and then once the party is in a position a little like the Dems were in 2024, with no clear successor and no time to really choose one, he can choose who he wants it to be in 2028.

I mean I don't think it's out of the question that he will choose for it to be himself, but there are other ways he could play that out.
