Newsome will be the nominee in 2028. Go ahead and accept it.

Who do you think vp will be? Or if not a specific person, will it be someone that checks boxes like "progressive" or "moderate"...maybe a person of color? Maybe a particular gender? Just 2 white folks or what?

I'll accept it. He probably should have been the nominee in 2024.

Since Cuban was on a poll in this thread, here's what he said today:
Quote :
"I’m the furthest from a Trump fan. But the reality is that he would have to shake very hard to equate to the shakedowns of the unrealized cap gains tax and warren’s tax that were proposed."

I'm not familiar enough with either one to form an opinion. I like the idea of 2 very outspoken opinionated billionaire titans going at each other. Probably why he showed up on a poll in the first place. Probably same reason stephen a smith showed up on a poll, minus the billionaire thing.

[Edited on August 24, 2025 at 1:02 AM. Reason : I suspect since it is warren, what he said was negative for you]

The difference is that one was proposed and never got close to happening, and one is actively happening.

I think its ridiculous to say a tax increase would be worse than all the cruelties and law breaking of the Trump administration. Shows his priorities.

also:
"The survey of 1,690 U.S. adults, which was conducted from Aug. 29 to Sept. 2, also finds that if the 2028 general election were “held today,” 49% of registered voters say they would cast their ballots for Newsom — while only 41% say they would choose Trump"

Not surprised newsome is on top, but very surprised more people don't know about pritzker

also AOC-buttigieg together have 22 where newsome has 21

It isn't especially important that random poll takers know about him in August 2024. He's laying a solid foundation with Democratic electeds, though (see: Texas legislators who fled to Illinois, not California during the quorum break); he's already laid down a marker in New Hampshire; and I would call him a favorite among the politically active base who look beyond the shitposts. And it's the active ones who are going to go out and canvass once the voting starts.

Still plenty of time for him to screw something up or some exogenous bullshit to happen, of course, but for right now I'm not concerned about his relatively low profile.

" The case for Gavin Newsom is simple. The Republicans nominated someone with no positive qualities, and they won bigly. Now it is our turn to nominate someone with no positive qualities.

Positive qualities, the case goes, are overrated. They can get you a billion dollars, or a Nobel, or some other consolation prize. To become President, you must be chosen by God.

Donald Trump was chosen by God. You can tell because he's invincible. He can wriggle out of scandals that would sink Tricky Dick Nixon ten times over. He can run on a platform of punishing illegal immigrants, and the illegal immigrants themselves will rally to his banner. He can support Israel harder than anyone has ever supported it before, and Arab-Americans will break fifty years of Voting Blue No Matter Who to march behind him. He can get 100% evangelical backing while oozing contempt for Christianity, 100% libertarian support while trampling the Constitution, and 100% allegiance from Wall Street while dismantling global trade. KKK wizards and celebrity rappers compete to compliment him loudest; Nazis and the ADL jostle past each other to sing his praises. Shooting him in the head only makes him stronger"

^It's not so much that Trump is invincible as it's that his supporters are indoctrinated idiots that can't learn from their own mistakes.

^ his supporters in 2024 were not a homogenous group as the quote points out. He was very good at picking off groups that were disgruntled (Arab Americans in Michigan, Mexicans in border towns, MAHA moms) with the left.

I think two of the three above are fully capable of having learned a lesson for 2028, but as we have seen the left will probably fumble the shit out of it and find a new way to make them disgruntled.

Being a non-homogenous group is not mutually exclusive with being a group of indoctrinated idiots. Seriously, all you have to do is listen to these people saying, "Nothing could change my mind about Trump".

That's the blind faith I'm talking about. The inability to learn from mistakes is implicit in refusing to change your behavior.

You're talking about 1 group, likely boomer cons. Plenty of people have changed their minds and are able to be swayed. Namely most of the groups he picked off that he didn't have in 2020.

Other people changing their minds is totally irrelevant to the fact he still has enough supporters to weather every fucking scandal so far.

You may say, "Plenty"; I say, "Not enough".

The fact that he's still president indicates I'm right. He's not gifted/invincible. His supporters are idiots that will tolerate every fucking abuse he commits.

You got what I said backwards. I said a lot of people can't be swayed AWAY from Trump.

You can speak of people being swayed TOWARD Trump all you want, so long as you realize it's totally irrelevant to what I said.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I think what you are describing is better explained by Trump making concessions like bombing Iran and aligning the powerful that hated him around him (tech crowd). He’s still got a few unpopular things but he greased enough palms he can get away with it.
