It sounds like The Coz conveniently forgot that the Epstein drive hasn't been invented in this universe yet. Mars isn't even a free colony/planet yet!

Got a kick out of the Sosumi Mac alert sound still being used in 2012 in this timeline.

They haven't made it to Titan yet. All they should was it lifting off (horizontally as a space plane, mind you) from a spaceport. They conveniently left out how an aircraft/spacecraft designed to launch from the moon in 1/6g and zero atmosphere is able to do that. But I guess plasma engines or something.

Even with them able to get to Mars in a month, if Saturn just happened to be at its closest to Mars and they were able to maintain that same pace, it would take them like a year to get there.

So Aleida told her family she'd be gone a year and she was sticking around at least until Sojourner landed...

transit to mars - 1 month
getting Sojourner ready - x
Sojourner transit to Titan - y
transit back from mars - 1 month

So the combined time to get a 20 year old spacecraft, that has been stripped for parts and sitting unprotected on the Martian surface, back to flight readiness, retrofitting it with fusion drives, and it landing on Titan is 10 months.

Not just back to flight readiness mind you -- with a completely new/updated design so that it could survive Martian ascent, deep space travel for a significantly longer amount of time, and Titan descent/surface environments.

Well now that you mention it, in Wonder Woman 1984 they went to the Smithsonian Udvar-Hazy in DC and just took a plane that was on display. It was luckily already fueled up and ready to go, but even though it had been sitting there for years without maintenance they were able to just start it up and fly to Africa. So it could work.

They mentioned in the last episode that it was 18 months to Titan from Mars. To put that into perspective, it would take Voyager 1 about 3 years to go that distance, and that is a small uncrewed spacecraft. Voyager 1 is one of the fastest spacecraft in operation right now -- although Parker Solar Probe hit higher peak velocities, its sustained cruise velocity isn't as high.

So I guess now that Kelly is halfway to Titan, that means the odds of her banging her son's best friend like her mother did are pretty low.

True. Her son's best friend is currently training to be a marine on Earth. He could get deployed to Titan as part of a rescue mission and end up getting invited to explore Kelly's "happy valley" if you know what I mean.

lol

Titan's atmosphere is mostly nitrogen and methane. Like 90% nitrogen. Astronomers predict that there are lakes, clouds, and rain made of methane. RP-1 rocket fuel is pretty much a very highly processed methane. So assuming they land near a lake or something, they would at least have access to it. In terms of how that is refined for rocket fuel though -- that's a question for a chemical engineer. Probably a lot of complex machinery that has never flown to Titan before. The bigger issue however is that fuel is only one half of the propellant. The other half is oxidizer. Titan doesn't have any oxygen (otherwise it would probably be on fire all the time). So where are they gonna get their oxygen to combine with the methane? And they have the capability to pressurize it?

There are other things going on here too. The mission plan as a whole was completely never going to work. Lets say the mission went according to plan. They would have done an entry burn just like this episode showed. They had some stuff about the density measurement on the atmosphere or whatever, but Aleida fixed that with a new trajectory (despite the fact that there is no way the mission ops director would be doing that...). The burn used up most of their propellant. Meaning that all along they were going to use up that much prop with the plan to make more on Titan's surface? They would NEVER land the first crewed landing without enough prop to get back. There are SO many things that could go wrong it is beyond any space flight risk management procedure. I guess if Ed Baldwin were on the crew, he'd be able to reliably punch the methane into usable fuel, but that isn't an option anymore.

And like bbehe said, they were on the other side of Saturn and did like a 30 second insertion burn and hit Titan's atmosphere less than a minute later? That would still be like 4 days. Then their heat shield, designed for Mars entry exceeded temp limits when descending on an atmosphere about 400x more dense than Mars. Okay so maybe they beefed it up -- that is A LOT of mass, which changes everything. How are they getting back to Mars now?

I think the true theme of the show is "Is the Baldwin trait nature or nurture?"

That is the real reason they chose to make Kelly an adopted child.
