i just got approved for oneyou get a free xerox phaser 8650DN (worth ~$1000)only stipulations:1) you gotta buy ink from them, it's around $100/color for 3 sticks, each stick prints around 2000 pages.2) you gotta buy the drum oil roller kits from them, $149 for one that'll do 15,000 pages.3) you gotta print at least a certain amount every month. lowest they'll take is 2000 pages. i can EASILY print 2000 pages in a month. if you dip below, it's $100/month.so yeah. if you do all that, after 3 years, the printer is yours to keep w/ no other obligations.pretty sweet, as i was going to buy one of these anyway.anyone else do this?

...no.
10/4/2007 12:44:22 AM
they monitor your usage?that's fucked up...no thanks
10/4/2007 12:45:41 AM
hey, they're giving you a free printer.you just print out the usage report from the printer every month and fax it to them. just tells them how many pages you printed.
10/4/2007 12:46:25 AM
So in other words you create your own printer report and say I use really low quality printing to conserve ink!
10/4/2007 12:47:20 AM
im too lazy for this program,
10/4/2007 12:49:36 AM
or do what i'm planning on doing if i don't use 2000 pages:ream of paper = 500 sheets = around $2it's a duplexing printer.so:2 reams of paper with 1 sentence printed on each side = 2000 pages. minimal ink usage.
10/4/2007 12:50:29 AM
Fuck that man, just print off a blank sheet. The printer probably won't count the difference between a blank word document and one with words.I mean, the easiest way to check this would be to check the print count, then print 50 blank pages, then check it again and see if it worked.

^was wondering if i could get away with that or not... they'd probably wonder why i wasn't ordering a proportionate amount of ink though
10/4/2007 1:13:30 AM
well htey must have a way of making you buy ink from them since thats partly important
10/4/2007 1:14:32 AM
just print out 2000 pages of a . on each then save the print cartridges. continue ordering as necessary and then at the end of the 3 years, not only will you have a free printer, but you will have no need to ever buy cartridges again.

^woah woah woah...explain this[Edited on October 4, 2007 at 1:25 AM. Reason : .]
10/4/2007 1:24:31 AM
Don't think that works since they require you to send back the old cartridges after receiving the new ones, correct?
10/4/2007 1:38:36 AM
do they provide the paper?
10/4/2007 1:40:21 AM
Oh I wasn't really paying attention. Yeah even if they didn't want to you send in the old cartridges, you're not getting anything out of keeping them since you have to buy each one from them at market price. What you DO get is the free printer after so many years. The problem is that they probably have a clause in the agreement that they can charge you or reclaim the printer if you fail to actually buy supplies from them. Since that's something you agree to do, if your usage greatly exceeds the expected yield from the cartridges you've purchased from them-they'll probably assume you're either cheating or purchasing supplies elsewhere. So after 3 years of ordering and stockpiling cartriges, sure you'll have a free printer and all but you'll also have purchased several thousands of dollars in cartridges. Not only is that more than you'll ever use in your life (unless you actually printed 2000+ full pages a month) but you just bought them all at MSRP.[Edited on October 4, 2007 at 1:47 AM. Reason : ]
