During last physical exam, I was told by doctor that I had Prediabetes. I believe it's fairly common in US. Any of you has similar condition? Need to work hard to get rid of it. At least start from losing weight. Too heavy right now(230lbs).

I’m a healthy BMI so not sure if it applies. But 10 minutes of weightlifting every other day works amazing for me to feel better. Just some adjustable weight dumbbells and doing lunges. I should be doing every day but whatever you can manage This is on top of zero sugary drinks (diet is okay), casual low carb meals (significantly cutting back on rice), and rare pastries/sweetsFor me I was having horrible migraines and switching to zero processed sugar solved all my problems so the motivation to make changes was pretty strongBut new research is showing weight training as almost a silver bullet[Edited on May 20, 2025 at 12:41 AM. Thanks for the advice. I immediately start weightlifting today. See how it works. As Asian, I can't avoid rice and carb meals. But I'll be more careful from now on.

^ I’m Asian too (the other kind). Rice has a big effect on blood sugar… you have to remember our ancestors were out in fields all day and walking up and down mountains. We don’t have that lifestyle so we don’t need that much riceAnother option is to get one of those continuous glucose monitors, theyre over the counter now. You can determine what is actually problematic for you.

^^ there are many types of asians, defined by how they usually have rice:biryani asiansfried rice asianssushi asianskabsa asianspilaf asianswhich type are you? i am guessing the first type as the first two types account for 80+% of asia's population, and you said "the other kind" to shoot.i am the first type, so i need to watch my health too, as south asians are genetically predisposed to high cholesterol and higher rates of diabetes and CVDs. my weight is just 140 lbs, but i am definitely am prone to storing fat around the midsection and have high cholesterol from my dad (he is 130-135 pounds and still has high cholesterol).i eat a whole food plant based diet vast majority of the time. i do have a penchant for desserts though, so working on reducing that.what do you do in 10 minutes of weightlifting?

^ 2 25 lb weights (have actually been increasing the weight as I get stronger— basically almost whatever your limit is), and then squats into presses until I can’t lift the weights anymore. my goal is to stimulate the uptake of glucose by pushing all my muscles. I hate exercising and I find this is the minimum that works for me. Other thing I do is just walk around my house farmer carrying the 2 55lb weights, going up and down the stairs. This triggers my leg muscles to absorb glucose it feels like. I definitely can tell when my body is not processing the glucose correctly— causes lots of brain fog and memory and headaches almost immediately.I’m not very sophisticated in my Asians but there’s basically just south Asians and East Asians I’m the south Asian type, my understanding is shoot is East Asian

Had you previously been diagnosed as diabetic or prediabetic, or this latest result was out of nowhere?

I've been obsessed with blood chemistry for a good 7 years. I have a lot of data and personal experiments. I found with light fasting, no alcohol, low carb (60g a day) I can put my cholesterol in normal ranges quickly. On the order of 1 month. If I cut out drinking and my diet is ok but not great it takes more like 4 months to hit normal ranges. Never had an A1C that high, only about a 5 once after a multimonth period of being a degenerate and not watching what I eat or drink.I was really low carb (20g) for about 5 months and was working out really really hard. I made it down to my high school weight (180) at about 18% bf. It absolutely wrecked my testosterone. I felt like shit. I started eating carbs again and it reversed.
